They set up a duco repair business as a means of maintaining a cash flow and became interested in the sales side of the motor trade.
Before embarking on the venture of buying a car yard they researched their ideas at great length using the internet, friends, family and the contacts that they have made in the local industry.
The duco repair business provided the opportunity to work with numerous dealers in Orange and to establish a reputation among the dealers by providing a good quality and friendly service
“The opportunity to purchase the business came from one of their regular customers Brian Holden who established his reputation in the motor trade over many years in Orange. Brian was thinking of easing back on his workload and often would leave his business in the hands of Allana and Penny while he ran errands or had days off.
The thought of approaching Brian to make an offer for the business occurred to the girls and they pitched a proposal to him which he accepted after some deliberation.
Things moved pretty quickly after this with the girls putting a business plan together, approaching the bank for finance and the MTA for assistance and support.
They attended an MTA course on Legal Requirements of selling cars and spent time visiting and introducing themselves to a number of wholesalers both locally and in Sydney. It was an exciting time when the girls bought their first car at auction in Dubbo and they have gone from strength to strength since.
Brian continues to be involved and mentors the girls from a distance. They have also built up a number of great advisers and new mates who are wonderfully supportive and friendly. Allana and Penny acknowledge that they don't always get it right however they are determined to enjoy themselves and have fun along the way.
