The modern motor vehicle is a complex piece of machinery, with some models having more computers fitted than the first space shuttle which landed on the moon.
ABS, Airbags, traction control are pretty much standard, but future vehicles will have technology that will automatically slow the vehicle down if entering a corner too fast, will have sensors that will prepare the vehicle occupants for an unavoidable collision.
In 1972 Mercedes introduced ABS as an option; can you purchase a vehicle today without ABS? Technology is moving much quicker now than it did back then, new technology is being introduced daily. We need to move with the times and keep up with this technology.
The MTA has some great relationships with component manufacturers and suppliers, such as oil and lubricant, brake and clutch, suspension, engine management, exhaust, and the list goes on.
The MTA on numerous occasions in rural NSW and Sydney; have organised technical information events. Unfortunately at times the response is somewhat disappointing. We may have up to 120 persons saying they would be attending, but only 60 or 70 actually show up. As you can appreciate Manufacturers and suppliers go to great expense to allow their staff to conduct these seminars, travel time, accommodation and the expense of putting the event on including supplying the attendees with food and drinks plus the cost of the venue.
It will only be a matter of time before these companies weigh up the costs of being involved in these sessions and come to the conclusion they are not viable.
This will be devastating for our industry, because the technical information flow to you and your technicians will cease and you will be left behind.
I implore you to support these events and your businesses will prosper.
Let your MTA representative know what our industry needs, and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
