MTA NSW aims to be responsive to the needs of members when it comes to the training that we offer. As such MTA NSW delivers the following courses that have direct relationships to licensing;
• LPG
• Air Conditioning
Both courses have been developed to be time and cost effective for members and/or their staff to attend.

Air Conditioning Training

To obtain an Automotive Air Conditioning Licence, with the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC), that allows the holder to work on any air conditioning equipment fitted to the cabin of a motor vehicle, an individual must have successfully completed:AUR20705 Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Air Conditioning) as stipulated on the ARC Fact Sheet 2008.  MTA NSW’s course supports participants in the attainment  of the Nationally Recognised Qualification in Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Air Conditioning) AUR20705. The certificate involves the following compulsory units of competence;

  • » AURC270103A Apply safe working practices
  • » AURT271781A Implement and monitor environmental regulations in the automotive mechanical industry
  • » AURE218708A Carry out repairs to single electrical circuits
  • » AURT222631A Install Air Conditioning systems
  • » AURT222670A Service Air Conditioning systems
  • » AURT322666A Repair/ Retrofit air conditioning systems

This course is aimed at Mechanics and Auto Electricians as upon successful completion of this training course the certificate obtained is then combined with their existing Motor Vehicle Repairers and/or Auto Electrical license which allows participants to apply for the Air Conditioning licence with the Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC). Please contact ARC on 1300 88 44 83 to find out more information on licensing.

All courses in Air Conditioning are two days in length and cost $780.00 (GST Free) per participant, while the next course is running on Tuesday 1st July & Wednesday 2nd July from 9:30 am – 4:30pm each day, new dates are being confirmed at the moment for future courses.

To register your interest in attending a future course please contact Layla on 9213 4238.  Currently this course is run in Sydney but MTA NSW is more than happy to run this regionally so long as there is a minimum number of participants.

As always MTA NSW can deliver training onsite at your business and is able to customise the delivery of training to meet your business needs.

There is also a trainee license for Air Conditioning and it is aimed at individuals who are undertaking a traineeship for twelve months in the Certificate II in Automotive Mechanical Technology (Air Conditioning) AUR20705.

This traineeship is open to any individual within your business who has been employed in your business for less than three months fulltime or less than twelve months part time or casual and is indentured within these timeframes into the Air Conditioning traineeship.

Their main job function must also be related to Air Conditioning.  MTA NSW is able to deliver this traineeship within NSW onsite at your workplace.

How to obtain an Automotive Air Conditioning Licence
How to Get a Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Trainee Licence

As hi-lighted with the list the compulsory units of competence above, the license and hence the training covers all areas in relation to Air Conditioning and as such when it comes to other sectors of the Automotive Industry such as Panel, Paint and Parts Recyclers there may exist a possible need for a restricted or partial license.  To date the Parts Recyclers are investigating the framework for a restricted license to meet their needs.

The Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts are aware of the potential merits of allowing a restricted gas handling licence being made available in some sectors under the provisions of this regulation, and in this regard has undertaken informed preliminary discussions with APRAA about adopting such measures.

MTA NSW on behalf of the Panel & Paint sector has communicated the concerns of this sector and their particular interaction with Air Conditioning to the Department and are awaiting resolution or direction.
