MTA introduces Environmental Accreditation program to promote motor industry

The Green Stamp Plus program assists businesses in the industry to meet and exceed their environmental legislative requirements and best practices. Now, with the introduction of the Green Stamp Environmental Accreditation program, businesses can be rewarded for their efforts and achievements!

An increasing concern for the environment by business owners and consumers in recent years has seen a general shift in attitude and practice in the motor trade. The automotive industry may have used to have a “dirty” reputation environmentally, but the industry’s practices have now truly advanced and it is time to communicate this to the community at large. A growing number of businesses have implemented operating processes and are managing particular wastes to a standard never previously achieved in Australia.

Despite these achievements, the industry can still often be recognised as being a significant polluter due to the environmental impact many traditional practices continue to have. One of the objectives of the Green Stamp Plus program is to start changing that belief by showing consumers that many workshops are including environmental considerations in their operations. The Green Stamp Plus Accreditation program is a marketing tool for automotive businesses to demonstrate to their customers their commitments to good environmental management.

Achieving Green Stamp Plus Accreditation is a tangible reward for your businesses’ good environmental practices. Becoming Accredited gives your business the opportunity to market its environmental achievements as well as raise morale amongst staff.

There are four easy steps to become Accredited:

1. Download an Information Pack and go through the criteria as a self-assessment. Assess the environmental management issues at your site and identify where you can make improvements to ensure that you meet environmental compliance. If you meet all of the criteria in Level 1 – Compliance and the required number in Level 2 – Beyond Compliance, then proceed to apply. If you don’t meet all the requirements, discuss your situation with the MTA to see what assistance you need.

2. Fill out the Application Form and submit it to the MTA with your payment.

3. MTA will visit your business and go through the criteria by carrying out a visual inspection. Relevant paperwork will also be gathered where indicated on the criteria.

4. Upon completion of your audit, your business will become Accredited if it achieves either Level 2 or 3. Those businesses will receive a Certificate of Accreditation, a promotion pack including a sign and the ability to use and promote the business as being “Green Stamped”.

Accreditation only costs $150 including GST for the initial application and then $50 including GST every year after that to renew. Higher fees are charged to non-members. The prices are to cover MTA’s costs and the promotion pack. The fees have been kept low to allow all Members to partake in this exciting new program that will change the face of the industry to consumers and make all Green Stamp businesses stand out.

To promote your business once Accredited, your business will receive:
» Certificate of Accreditation
» Green Stamp Plus “Environmentally Accredited” colour outdoor sign (600mm X 450mm)
» 200 pamphlets to promote the businesses’ environmental commitment to its customers (including petrol saving tips)
» The Green Stamp Plus logo in .jpg and .eps format and the right to use the logo to promote your business.

The MTA is very excited to introduce this new program and we look forward to hearing from you if you have any questions or would like any further information. This is a great way for the industry to further promote itself to its customers and potential customers.
