Vehicle intermittently cutting out while driving. Restarts OK.
Problem Summary
After extensive road testing, problem occurred once, vehicle restarted straight away. Further driving under different conditions, lead us to experience the problem regularly.
Diagnostic Sequence
Test battery power and earth connections. All OK.
Testing live data on scan tool to try and pin point the problem.
Noticed power supply problems to ECU and dash instrumentation when vehicle cuts out. Further testing confirms power supply problems to ECU. Tracing wiring back to ignition switch (4).
Removal of ignition switch and testing showed ignition 1 (main) supply to ECU and dash instrumentation. Excessive voltage drop across ignition switch. Opening up switch and inspection confirmed poor connections to ignition feed 1.
Fault Description
Ignition switch contacts burnt and causing excessive voltage drop.
Fault Solution Replacement of electrical section of ignition switch.

Labour time was 3.5 hours, taking into account research time, location of parts and actual time spent fixing the problem.
