MTA Proposes a Vehicle Scrapping Programme. I have written to the Federal Treasurer to propose a measure that would add considerably to the programme of economic stimulation already introduced by the Government.

Securing Apprenticeships Initiative – Supporting out-of-trade apprentices in the automotive industry skill shortage trades. On the 19th February 2009 the Deputy Prime Minister announced a new $145.6 million dollar initiative Securing Apprenticeships.

Written Off Vehicles – The Other Side
Since the year 2000 there has been a worrying downward trend throughout the Body Repair Industry with a steady decline in motor vehicle repairable Insurance claims but an ever increasing rise in total losses.

Vehicle sales over the past several months have continued to decline. Sales figures from the FCAI tell a sad story in that sales are down by approximately 20% units per month for several months now.

Mechanical workshops should aim for Green Stamp Accreditation. Over the past year I have been working closely with the MTA’s Green Stamp program regarding the environmental issues that all mechanical workshops in NSW face. I have visited several businesses across NSW who have wanted the MTA to visit and help with any environmental issues.
 
 
Environmental News: Sophie Luttrell
Assistance for Members with underground tanks with new regulations. New legislation for sites containing underground petroleum storage systems (UPSS) commenced mid-2008. The MTA recognises that some of the new requirements are expensive and arduous, particularly the requirement for groundwater monitoring wells, which could costs tens of thousands of dollars to install before the required point in time of June 2011.
