Customer Complaint
Loud beeping noise, like an alarm, sounding intermittently while driving.
Problem Summary
Vehicle intermittently sounds warning type beeping noise while driving.
Diagnostic Sequence
1) General inspection of vehicles battery and wiring, testing of charge rate and test all lights etc.
2) Hook up scan tool and check for fault codes. No codes present in either engine or body control.
3) Determine noise to be warning system indicating bonnet, boot etc not closed properly. Bonnet and boot switches or bonnet alignment are known to give problems. After checking both OK.
4) Inspect tilt sensor in passenger side boot section (1).
5) Tilt sensor has been remove wiring harness left loose and badly corroded due to water damage(2).
6) Passenger side boot section full with water and wiring plug submerged.
Fault Description
1) Due to sensor damage and being submerged in water caused warning system to activate. Water entering boot area common after heavy rain and tilt sensor fitted in bottom well area of passenger side boot area(3).
Fault Solution 1) Clean out water from well area. Repair or insulate wiring plug. Either replace tilt sensor or inform customer that tilt sensor system no longer operational.
Recommended Time
Labour time was 2.5 hours, taking into account research time, location of parts and actual time spent fixing the problem
