Motor vehicle industry grants announced

Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge today announced $98,700 funding for three education and training projects for the motor vehicle industry.

Ms Judge said the funding, provided through NSW Fair Trading’s Motor Vehicle Industry Grants Program, was being provided to:

Strategic Community Assistance to Refugee Families, $1,200 for the “Getting and Keeping Wheels on the Road: Education for Refugees as First Car Buyers and Owners” project
Automotive Training Board of NSW, $60,000 for the “Recognition of Skills in the Automotive Industry” project and
MTA Apprenticeships Plus, $37,500 for the “Auto-Advantage” project.

“These grants support projects focused on best practice and innovation in the industry, as well as enhanced outcomes for consumers,” she said.

“The Motor Vehicle Industry Grants Program helps maintain skilled tradespeople, improve industry standards and provide better protection for consumers.”

Ms Judge said the strength of the industry depended on the knowledge and professionalism of its members and the ability of consumers to access relevant information.

“The NSW Government is committed to supporting effective training in the motor vehicle industry that benefits the entire community,” she said.

Automotive Training Board NSW Executive Officer Debra Joyce said government support through the Motor Vehicle Industry Grants Program was helping alleviate multiple stresses on the automotive industry, including technology changes and skills development needs.

“The industry appreciates the ongoing support provided through this program and we look forward to continuing our long and healthy relationship with NSW Fair Trading,” she said.

Ms Judge said NSW Fair Trading also provided regular seminars to motor dealers and repairers as part of the agency’s regular regional and community access programs.

“More than 16 sessions are being delivered across the state this year, providing information and advice on Fair Trading’s dispute resolution services and compliance and legislative matters relating to the motor vehicle industry,” she said.
