MTA’s Employment Relations Information System (ERIS) offers “state of the art” assistance to MTA members on employment matters. ERIS is an internet site designed and built by MTA for its members. The service offers information and assistance tools to keep you informed and to assist you with implementing initiatives and compliance requirements. This is done by providing MTA member subscribers with relevant summarised information along with, in many cases, documents and forms that can be downloaded, added to and utilised by the business.

The employees in our businesses are much better informed today than ever before. Employers need to be able to respond efficiently and effectively, but more importantly employers need to be pro-active.

Innovative in its own right by being a first of its type in Australian industry, the ERIS service offers systems and a database that will assist members prepare and save their work within the system for recordkeeping and later use. Some of these services within ERIS include the occupational health & safety management system, the company policy builder, annual leave and long service leave calculators.

The OHS management system includes automotive specific checklists and guidance material. The system will allow you to download a checklist to suit your business, amend it to directly accommodate your business if necessary, and save it as a favourite for further future use. After you have conducted a workplace audit you may enter your findings into the database with a timeline for rectification. If you have not completed the work and recorded this in the system, ERIS will send you an email reminding you of this activity to be done. When the audit is complete it will be saved within the database for future information (or evidence) as required. The system provides a number of “registers” to assist members with managing the OHS function and meeting compliance with the law. These include the injury register, plant maintenance register and hazardous substance register to name a few.

Employers having a comprehensive set of policies makes good business sense. A good set of “house rules” will equip a business with standard operating procedures across an array of issues that offer efficiency measures for business. Policies will reduce management time necessary to addressing such issues and support management when it is necessary to respond to such issues. The policy builder within ERIS offers members automotive specific policies that respond to your business needs. The policy builder allows members to select policies from various subjects such as OHS, leave and attendance, customer relations, vehicle usage, etc which is then transferred across to an editing page. At the editing page the user can then adjust or add to any of the policies and then save to company policy manual within ERIS for later use/access.

Working out annual leave or long service leave entitlements can be a bit daunting at the best of times. Calculators within ERIS allow you to quickly and effectively do this task. Once the calculation sheet appears it can be saved into ERIS for future recall as required.

The ERIS system is continually being updated and upgraded to ensure members have the latest relevant information and system available, anytime 24/7. In fact the service includes an email service, generally on a monthly basis to update you on current happenings to keep you informed, which also includes the “MTA Industrial News.”

The ERIS service now also includes via email the monthly edition of “AutoSafe News” to assist those subscribers, or their staff, who have been given access to the OHS management system with the latest OHS information, tips and trends.

For more information on this service go to www.mtansw.com.au, telephone the MTA on 92134222 or go to www.eris.com.au. The ERIS is a MTA member only service with a subsidised subscription rate. Once upon a time only big business could afford this type of service – now all MTA members can.
