Message from CEO
MTA Moves to Sell its’ Premises in Brisbane Street Darlinghurst. There are a number of member that have enquired about the sale of the MTA Building in Darlinghurst and although the details were outlined in an earlier edition of the Journal I have decided to print this information again so that all members will be fully aware of the decision that was made by their Board and Governing Council.

Registering a repairable written-off vehicle
There are new rules for registering a repairable written-off vehicle.
1. Before starting repairs talk to a licensed repairer.
2. Have the vehicle repaired according to manufacturer or recognised industry standards.
3. Get a Certificate of Compliance from a licensed repairer.
4. Have the vehicle pass Roads and Maritime Services inspections.
5. Visit a motor registry to register your vehicle.
Service Station Division: Ron Bowden
Shopper docket discount schemes. As previously reported, the Service Station Division is greatly concerned with the two supermarkets’ elevated shopper docket discount schemes. We have complained to the ACCC about them, and the Petrol Commissioner, Joe Dimasi has responded with a proposal to meet with us in the near term to examine the issue in greater detail.

New Workplace Safety Laws on the Doorstep. From 1 January, 2012 NSW employers must respond to new workplace safety laws. The Work Health & Safety Act 2011 will place new obligations on employers and in particular officers of organisations. Members need to prepare for the new legislation but for many members it will largely be business as usual.

AHVRA - Industry Newsletter December 2011

MTA Apprentice’s Win Awards. Fair Trading Minister Anthony Roberts honoured the top automotive apprentices at the 2011 NSW Automotive Training Board awards at a luncheon in Sydney on the 18th November. The awards, now in their 30th year, acknowledge NSW automotive apprentices who have achieved excellence in work and study and demonstrated a commitment to their trades.

Roads and Maritime Services (RMS)
On 1 November 2011 a new organisation called Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) was formed to replace the Roads and Traffic Authority and NSW Maritime.
The VSCCS will be administered by RMS. Vehicle Safety Certification & Compliance Scheme (VSCCS) is now law.
On 30 November 2011 the Governor signed amendments to the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2007 to establish the VSCCS.
