Real World Performance Hits the Streets with the BMW K 1300 Series
As Europe's largest and most successful motorcycle manufacturer BMW Motorrad is once again increasing its leadership in the premium segment of high performance sports machines.
Not only did the BMW K series celebrate its 25th birthday last year, BMW Motorrad revealed the very best of the K series at Intermot 2008, the most powerful and fastest BMW production bike yet.
The new K 1300 Series is available in three distinct models, each catering for wide and varied rider demands. The range begins with the ultimate high performance sports motorcycle the K 1300 S, the naked, bold and muscular K 1300 R and Grand Turismo of the new range the K1300 GT.
The K series has a long history on both globally and here in Australia. The long standing success and reputation of the K Series has inturn created a loyal and passionate following, leading to a seamless runout of the K 1200 Series (S, R and GT). In its previous guise, since 2005, the K 1200 S, R and GT sold well over 1,000 units sold and the new K 1300 is expected achieve comparable volume over its lifecycle.
The new K1300 Series introduces significant changes and upgrades over the K 1200 to provide more power and in particular more usable power. More importantly it creates an even more dynamic and supreme riding experience and does this with greater efficiency. This is achieved via a number of engine upgrades such as a revised air intake, combustion chamber, engine management and exhaust system taking the engine capacity to 1293cc. The Drivetrain also receives the option of Gearshift Assistance for shifting up without the slightest interruption of power.
In terms of the chassis, this too has undergone changes with the Duolever lower trailing arm now made out of alloy, the introduction of the new Electronically Adjustable Suspension II (ESA) and anti vibration handlebars provide optimised handling.
A significant change within the K 1300 range is the new look and ergonomically improved switch gear providing a cleaner and easier to use cockpit.
For the Australian and New Zealand markets the following K 1300 models will be release and available for market introduction in March 2009.
